My oh my… that Neiman Marcus Christmas Book continues to delivery some one-of-a-kind gems for the ultra-rich (all of us). Good thing a portion of the money is going to some solid charities. Their Hacker-Craft Speedboat is well out of most people’s range but someone needs to buy it. At $250,000 smackers, this 27-foot solid mahogany speedboat will tip the scales on either end: looking good – paying for it. “For every speedboat sold, Neiman Marcus will make a $3,000 donation to the Double H Ranch” – cofounded by Paul Newman and Charles R. Wood.

If I had to choose between the two design philosophies I'd chose the German one. It is also closer to Dutch design. Everything is funcional and in there you find the beauty. I think something can be both a decorative piece and a well functioning piece of furniture or appliance.

End of staycation

I just came back today from my 'stay-cation' as some americans call it. This is the first time that I didn't leave the country during a vacation period. I went to visit M and Gureisu in Maastricht. I had a wonderful time. Seeing the sights, shops, cafe's and cocktail bars. I even discovered a new german movie well worth seeing called Das leben der Anderen. For the first time since moving to the Netherlands I felt I wouldn't mind living in another city besides Amsterdam. For a short while at least. Amsterdam still remains my favorite city so far. But it was nice to get away, see family and friends, and just relax.

I saw my blog on an iPad today. And although the iPad is pretty, and sleek and easy to work with, it doesn't have flash! So the video I posted yesterday doesn't show. Also half of my pictures don't get portrayed fully because of the limited screen size. This is the same on my 13 inch MacBook, but of course its more limited on the iPad. The best way to view my blog is on an iMac. Even the picture quality impressed me. Now if only I had the money to buy one.

I'm back in Europe after crossing different time zones. I have no idea where my circadian rhythm is at right now. But I don't have much time to worry about it. Tomorrow I move to a new apartment. Its a temporary one but moving is still a lot of work. I'm really starting to hate it.

A Look Back at 2010

To say that 2010 was a hectic year would be an understatement. Between school, a social life, and traveling there hasen't been much time for reading or even blogging.

The year started out with me returning to Amsterdam. Then I went on my first ski vacation. Snowboarding was hard and although I won't be trying it again in 2011, I'm looking forward to mastering it in the future.

In May I got to go to Guatemala for the first time, and I spend the whole summer living in Spain. Then it was time to get on with my second year.

Last month it was time for another first. Germany! Which brings me to my point.

Last year I wished for a year of happiness and more firsts. I also hoped everybody would achieve their New Years resolutions. So this year, I don't really see the need to change those wishes. Its been a great year. With some bumps, but we learn from those bumps. And the pluses always oushine the minuses. So as I celebrate the new year here in Aruba, I hope that tomorrow when I fly back to Amsterdam will be the start of an equally good year for all.
