A Single Man

A Single man hit theaters in the Netherlands on the 4th. When I came back from France and found out it was out I had to go as soon as possible. So I did today. And I loved it. Its everything I thought it would be. And possibly a bit more. Its one of those movies that makes you think about life. And it probably means something different to everyone. I highly recommend watching this one if its in a theatre near you.

More about my trip to France next time!

Loving this everyday

Up until now I haven't fallen on the ice or gotten in trouble due to the snow (except for the delays when I flew to Aruba last month). This afternoon there was heavy snowfall again, and I think it will go below -5C tonight. Not as cold as the other days have been. I must say I find it all"valt mee" as they say here in Holland. Its really not as bad as I thought. I kinda love it. I like that the seasons change. I'm happy I have such a beautiful first winter here in Amsterdam. And the views from my place during one of those snow showers....stunning!

Until next time!

Unexpected Dande

This is an Aruban tradition that has managed to survive the ages. It takes place during new years celebrations period, and only takes place on Aruba. There are competitions each year, and the number of participants seem to be growing. Although it has changed from being a donations dependent tradition to a more comercial one. Its still refreshing to see that some Aruban traditions still have managed to stay around.

Sorry for the bad video quality. I was not expecting to see this. For me it was the first time seeing it live. Because its so rare, I've only seen it on TV. I must say it was fun, and it always feels good to receive "new years well wishes."

Until next time!

Mid Century Modern Design

Its 2010 and time for a fresh start. I'm back in Amsterdam, after a long set of flights. Although I'm suffering from Jet-lag and a cold, I awoke this morning at 04:00 thinking about modern design and a style that had made quite an impression on my in my childhood, This probably is still shaping my taste in design today.
Mid Century Modern. The future of yesterday, the classics of today.

Welcome to 2010.

Bad for some, good for others, goodbye 2009

This year has been a year of great personal change. I graduated from university in the U.S., and started a new life in Europe. Looking back on 2009, I would say it was a very good year for me. We've all got different experiences, but I must say that I've been lucky to have gotten an opportunity to start a new life. Its enabled me to grow in ways I didn't think previously possible.
For many, this may not have been the best year. With the economic crises, global warming, and the ongoing wars, it has been a rough year for many families around the world.
While one by one the cities around the world are ushering in 2010, people are looking to this year with hope and optimism. I hope, that 2010 does not disappoint. I hope that everyone's new year's resolutions are achieved, and I hope for myself that 2010 will be even better than 2009. A year of more firsts, and more growth. Most importantly, a year with more happiness.

Happy New Year!

The holidays

*One of my christmas presents.

Its the holidays and I managed to get to Aruba. It wasn't easy with all the snow in both the United States and Europe. I got stuck twice because of the snow. Once because of the snow in the U.S., which caused my first flight with connection in Philadelphia to be canceled. On my second try the next day on a direct flight from Amsterdam to Aruba, I ened up with a 5.5 hour delay and 6 hours on the plane only to get turned back to the gate because of the snow. I had to spend a night in a hotel. On the third day I finally managed to fly with only an hour delay.
Although its a short vacation, its always nice to spend the holidays with the family.
I'll be leaving again on the first, via the U.S. Not looking forward to the extra regulations, but we'll have to deal with it for now.
I hope all who are reading this had a great time with whoever you call your family this holiday season. I hope to write a end of the year recap as I usually do before the years end.
So until then, I have not forgotten about this blog, I've just been focusing on other things.
Until the 31st!

Ercola feat. Daniella "Every Word" HD

Love this song right now. More music coming up in the following days. I had a wonderful weekend hanging out with friends so didn't have time to blog. And during the week I'm all about school. But every now and then I get an idea for a blog and never get around to typing it. Ah well...enjoy the song.
